Had a total hip replacement done on my right hip at the end of May 2010. I had been diagnosed as needing this procedure over 4 years ago, but put it off (at the doctor's suggestion) until the pain was too much to bear. After the surgery, I was told that my bad hip was almost 90% bone-on-bone. No wonder it hurt......
So far recovery is going very well. Physical therapy has helped a lot. I go 2X per week, and am pretty good about doing the exercises at home on my own, although I will miss a day here and there. The only pain I have now is muscle pain from rebuilding what I had lost, and is nothing like the pain before the operation.
I've just been cleared to hit golf balls, ride a bike, and increase the weights and exercises. Hopefully I will start to play tennis and other sports in a month or so. So far it's been a fantastic experience for me.
I'll check back in from time to time to let others know how I am progressing. But I am a total believer in this procedure. Many thanks to the doctors and hospital staff, my physical therapists, and my family for their support.
